Other topics are basically dead...

Well, you know, maybe people are actually at home listening to their SACDs rather than posting about them!

Bum, bum!

I wonder if the music industry has lack of interest on SACD. I can't find players in my country, and the discs are available only by importing them. I'd really love to know this technology. :-(

I really enjoy this site. I enjoy reading the comments in the forum section, and I find the reviews very helpful as I build my personal collection. But I have found that many people who were at one time very involved in this site have not posted or reviewed for several years.

There have now been almost 8,000 SACD's released, and I am finding with the people I listen to music with that the interest in SACD continues to grow. I have got at least five people interested enough in SACD to go out and purchase players and disc's in the last two years.

I am just wondering what has happened to those who were once involved, and is there some way to get them re-involved? Zeus, is there a way for you to send out a mass e-mail to all members reminding them about the site and the continued interest in the SACD format?

Just a thought.

As Zeus has written, people come and go. I've been around since the early days and have noticed a lot of folks who once posted a lot on the forum rarely do any more, if not any more at all. Newcomers often post the most, and then drop off a bit.
The tone of the posting has changed thru time. It certainly is not now what it used to be 5 years ago. I think the bickering and contentiousness have driven a lot of the old posters to infrequent posting now as the threads have changed focus.
There is still a lot of good information in the disc discussion threads.
And I think inspite of all the issues folks have brought up in this thread, this is still a good forum.

Agree with everything you say.

I have been around a long time...but some of the threads are just ridiculous, and no, I don't post as much anymore. I also rarely do reviews any longer, but that is as much as a time issue as it is anything else.

The bickering used to be over on the audio asylum...but it moved here about the time that DVD-A died, I think.

There's more "talk about bickering" on the forum than the bickering itself.

A lively well supported forum is surely the best marketing tool that SA-CD.net could have?

..and...

It's really up to Zeus to get to grips with spicing up the website to invigorate it's now flagging attraction. Otherwise like any other product it will be impossible to halt the decay side of it's natural life-time.

Sorry, Zeus but right now the growing impression is that you couldn't care less any longer and will be glad to see the back of it... I hope this impression is false but such a thought would not have occurred to me a few years ago.

...and...

It's certainly a possibility that if this site dies SACD will die with it. Now that's a weighty responsibility alright!

I'm still here plugging away ... but I can't carry the format alone.

I think this site is a great resource. The occasional bickering doesn't bother me at all, especially given the wealth of information and valuable exchange that occurs on a regular basis. Some bickering is inevitable on any forum - it's just human nature.

Not to mention that the whining and complaining in this thread seem to be a popular pastime for some.

Bickering doesn't bother me; I lost interest for other reasons: all the discs that are nothing more than warmed-over PCM, the lack of flexibility of SACD players when it comes to adjusting sweet spot in multi-channel. Too many lukewarm conductors and regional orchestras who can't compete with the big boys of the past, and the sad realization that by the time SACD repertoire matches breadth and depth of LP/CD era--especially Lp era--I'll be shoving my morning toast in the SACD player, and SACDs in the toaster....
