Ah, now I see, sorry: I live in Italy, paid my player in euros, and forgot that
*now* 1 euro is quite a bit more than 1 american dollar! Out of curiosity, which
is the best price in dollars, around 3500?!?

I found a dealer on the internet (Marantz approved) that will sell for $2,300 USD. I may just have to buy this.

I have looked at these. Very attractive. How would you rate it and why are you selling it?

Rating:
An utterly beautiful machine in all senses (inspiring envy in all one's male acquaintances). It plays CDs exquisitely, upsamples bad CDs to enjoyable sound, and plays HDCDs -- an ear-popping experience.

Reason for selling:
I'm "moving on" to SACD, and don't have shelf-space for 2 top-end players. If you're interested, e-mail me (see profile).

Sorry, but I am really looking for an sacd/cd player. I decided to order the Marantz SA-11S1 based on reviews I found here and elsewhere. Thanks anyway!

I decided to take the most commonly recommended unit and bought the Marantz SA-11S1 SACD. I have to be honest, while this unit plays very well and I have no complaints it just is NOT that big a jump in sound quality from my 20 year old Hitachi CD player. On the other hand the correct cables have an astounding impact on the depth of the music, especially bass and staging. I do appreciate the filter options but for the most part find the filter 1 to be the most accurate and balanced.

With all respect, if you're not noticing an enormous improvement in sound quality with CD playback over your 20 year old Hitachi model I can only assume that other equipment in your set-up must be limiting the reproduction you're getting. Sounds like more upgrading is necessary. The SA-11S1 is an exceptionally fine CD player.

NOT to be a "troll" but I have to say:

Except that if it only does stereo, it is not capable of reproducing the sound one hears in a concert hall. The reactionary movement away from multi-channel is most disappointing. A step backwards from "The Absolute" sound.

I disagree with you, because a human being only have two ears. Besides, there are no reactionary movements away from multi-channel: A/V disc players are multi-channel.
