Hi all, first post :)

I'd like to purchase an SACD player, having at last an OK audio system.
Nowhere near audiophile but happy with what I have so far.

System is as follows:

* Jamo 707i Fronts
* Jamo center 200 reference Center
* Jamo C603 Backs

* Onkyo TX-NR709 (btw, DSD compatible over HDMI but without any Audissey tech)
* Sony JE500 older MiniDisc player (yep, still have tenths of those)
* HDI BD Prime 3 as BD/DVD player and HD music player since it does 24bit/192KHz and 5.1 (and makes noise when reading CD-A)
* Technics SL-Q210 turntable (which is pretty much a banality AFAIK)

Rest isn't important as fas as sound is concerned.

My previous cd player being dead, I need another (not too crappy) one. SACD being expensive except for Sony scd-XE800 and Pioneer PD-10 (both only stereo), I thought about getting a second hand SCD-XB780/790. Seems very ell regarded and is 5.1.
If I need DSD Discs I can still buy one of those Sony/Pioneer if needed.

Is that completely stupid or am I on a good track?

Thanks,

Thibs

BD player I have, 4K scaler I have and this will only output DSD over HDMI which is annoying.

I'm sure it will, but Oppo wouldn't bring much to the table over my current player (in fact Oppo video/audio dematerialised capabilities are worse AFAIK).

So no, no Oppo for me.

And what would you expect?

As an owner of Onkyo tx-sr707, I believe that the 709 model definitely has Audyssey, at least of the MultEq flavor. Again, based on my experience, it should be deployed for multichannel listening.

Well, analog out would allow Audissey.

Indeed but it won't work with DSD sources according to manual (or their manual really is POS).

Since the Onkyo receiver converts incoming DSD to PCM anyway prior to D/A conversion, why not just set the player to output multichannel PCM, precisely so you could use Audyssey? AFAIK, there is no such thing as Audyssey for DSD anywhere at any price.
