LSO Live (http://www.lso.co.uk/recordings/lsolive/) has a lot of good and highly regarded recordings done lately with DSD recording equipment. Their CDs does also sell at a very low price.

I seem to recall reading about some plans to start issuing SACDs. Does anyone know if they have any plans to issue SACDs and if so, when?

Yes, we do intend to release SACDs at some point in the future. However we are limited at present by resources - in other words, we don't currently have the space to stock our titles across two formats.

I know the simple answer would be to manufacture all our releases as hybrids. However we would then not be able to release CDs at such a low price (GBP 4.99) and our priority at present is to make top class recordings available at the lowest possible price.

When we release them, we also want our SACDs to be available as cheaply as possible.

Thank you for the info!

If space is the main issue, you can have my basement for free. ;)

Seriously though, having the LSO Live releases on SACD (or DVDA for that matter) would be incredible. The CDs are already great. I can't wait to get Jansons' new Mahler release. Please make the SACDs hybrids when you do begin releasing them. As long as portable and car SACD players are not available, non-hybrid SACDs are highly annoying.

Hi Chaz,

Your organization has pure gold in those vaults. Major orchestras are performing a great service to their future and their public by self producing and publishing. Especially when using the highest quality formats and best engineering and production people. I hope this becomes an industry trend. The LSO and SFS are paving the way for the economic future life of large orchestra classical music IMO.

I do hope you chose SCAD as the future release media. But my question is were your sessions to date done in multichannel? I can’t imaging them not being done so. In the meantime, I’ll gladly purchase all your Mahler, Berlioz and other romantic composers on CD, waiting for a hoped for SACD re-release.

Thanks

Chaz, glad to see LSO Live join a forum like this. It feels to me like you folks are the long time solution we've been waiting for to the Berlioz Requiem "problem" - Colin Davis, multichannel sound, the LSO and you've got a global winner. Perhaps you could even make an exception to the pricing for this-we'd be willing to pay more.

Like Tream so pointed out that we as SACD devotees are willing to pay for more.

Being a retired businessman, I'd venture to say that from a pure business point of view, for your targeted customer, we. "Lowest possible price" is NOT everything. The best possible VALUE is everything! We want value. We want quality. We are willing to pay accordingly.

Btw, I am dying for Davis' Berioz Requiem.

I've only just discovered the 'LSO Live' series. The 'Symphonie Fantastique' CD is a really gripping performance. The only minor flaw is that Colin Davis' (very faintly audible) singing is not the equal of his superlative conducting. I wish I'd bought the entire Berlioz set now.

However I'm personally unwilling to spend money on the CD versions with SACD round the corner. When any 'LSO live' SACD (or DVDA for that matter) discs come out I'll be first in the queue.

Please hurry up and release surround sound SACD/DVDA 'LSO Live' discs, I'm hooked already!

I would really like to see the LSO recordings released on SACD, especially if they can be released as multichannel recordings. I particularly am interested in the Shostakovitch #11!
