Google does not give me a clean answer, not much discussion about the format recents, though 2L and Naxos still release BD-A material.

Is the 'movement' still having any momentum?

The whole Solti Ring in 24/96 on BD is certainly interesting (though as part of a £200 boxed set, I won't be indulging), but I would guess that SACD will be the last widely used physical media for high rez audio, and I use the word widely with caution...

With an increasing market penetration of Universal BD players and the easy availability of Blu~ray replicating plants not to mention the tremendous capacity of a BD disc, I wouldn't be surprised to see more enterprising companies (both domestic and foreign) avail themselves of this wonderful format.

I, personally, have over 40 BD~Audio discs in my collection as I have no prejudice, whatsoever, what hi~rez format I invest in.

My guess is that we shall see more and more BD~Audio discs in the near future as the format can peacefully co~exist with SACD and the occasional DVD~A formats just fine.

Bless those Universal Players and OPPO for making hi~rez both enjoyable and affordable!

I consider myself quite format-agnostic too but seriously, are there 40 BD-A discs out there?

Like Lenny said, if the Solti Ring on BD audio turns out to be more than just a one time gimmick (which is all it is at this point because it only comes in an expensive box), that could be a big game changer.

Yes, 7T: The Neil Young boxed set of BD audio comprises 10, Naxos has released about a dozen or so (the Haydn box has 3 BD~Audio discs), 2L has over a dozen (with SACDs included) and there are some rock reissues like Tom Petty (2) and Steve Wilson (2 incl. Storm Corrosion) and the Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross OSR of The Social Network, Patricia Barber: Modern Cool and the upcoming Solti Ring Cycle on BD~Audio. And Sono Luminus has also released the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet's "Rupa~Khandha" as a BD~A disc.

Slowly but surely these numbers will increase as having SACDs pressed in Austria or Japan is out of reach for a lot of producers wishing to release in hi~rez.

Even DVD~A will have at least four more releases this year with the upcoming King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer sets (confirmed as 96/24 MLP 5.1 DVD~A's......or perhaps PCM 5.1 as SONY is involved).

Perhaps the SACD technology could be implemented and improved in Blu-Ray. But this could involve costs. I don't know the SACD yet, but I think it is quite satisfactory as a high definition and multi-channel format.

You can expect a new Blu-ray Audio release once in a blue moon, but any kind of 'movement' at this point is beyond illusory.

I disagree, audioholik, and for that matter rejoice in the fact that 5" Optical discs are going to be here for awhile, and unless you're a downloader, when they come, dip your toes in the Olympic waters of BD and you, too, will be a convert. What does not come out on SACD but does come out on BD~A.........with the proper playback equipment you won't even know the difference!

Einstein surmised: "Imagination is more important than knowledge......."

BD is the best 5" optical disc for the masses and either embrace it or suffer for lack of knowledge......let your imagination run free, audioholik!
