Those are all some excellent questions. I purchased a fair number of the EMI Japan SACDs before the Signature Series was launched. I was able to sell the duplicate Japanese versions, and I have for now waited to buy any further Japanese EMI's, as one never knows what will end up in the second wave of Signature Series releases--if there *is* a second wave. That's the 15-or-35 dollar question...
Re: Furtwängler releases: I have all but about 5 of the Furtwängler EMI's, all four DG's, and all 6 of the Dreamlife releases (for those that don't know the Dreamlife SACDs, they are all sourced from vintage Melodya LPs: /alltitles/316) . I can't imagine that any of the EMI, DG, or (especially) Dreamlife titles have sold very well outside of Japan, given the age and condition of the source material. Nonetheless, I love all of them, though I can't say the upgrade was justified in some cases.
