Will look into Allison's disc, thank-you for the suggestion. After purchasing Shelby's disc, I did look her up on Wikipedia. She seems to be one of many accomplished artists that have escaped my notice. And the loss she has endured is tragic. The scope of the tragedy is unfathomable. To her credit, she has kept going.

This sacd was a great discovery and introduction to Lynne which I hope others will try.

Just purchased "Show" which you had reviewed. Hope that's the one you meant!

I wonder if anyone has additional comments on this one. Having recently bought APO's remaster of Holly Cole's Temptation, I'm hoping for a similar success along the lines of presence and realism.

That it has in spades. A well~recorded album to begin with and APO has done its usual primo job on the SACD mastering.

Are you a fan of the album artistically, rammiepie?

I'm a bigger fan of the Dusty Springfield originals although Shelby Lynne manages to pull it off quite convincingly.

If you are a jazz lover, I would opt for the excellently recorded Ella Fitzgerald's "Clap Yo' Hands, Here Comes Charlie," which is quite extraordinary (newly available from Acoustic Sounds on Verve Stereo SACD).

Shelby is NO Ella, that's for sure.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll take a look at that Ella record-- Ella and Louis is my only Ella SACD at this point....

Steely T, just gave the Shelby Lynne SACD another spin tonight and IMO, it's tasteful, well~recorded but all in all a snoozefest. Not a Memphis horn to be heard. Also played Look of Love by Dusty Springfield from the Casino Royale soundtrack (Classic Records HDAD 96/24) and it totally blew away Lynne's laid back rendition.

Am now playing Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie on a Japanese Import CD and Ella's sense of phrasing and superb back~up blows the lid off the "Just A Little Lovin' " SACD.

It's your call.

This is one of my favourite albums - my best description would be a low-key, but intense younger sister of Dusty Springfield. She does not have Dusty's power or Ella's chops, but most of the tracks linger in your mind. I love Memphis horns, but this is intentionally a small band delight. Recommended if you like Bobbie Gentry or Tony Joe White.
