i'm lurker here and can't help but comment on jerks like prometheus...

he happened to blurt out an insult along with his snobbery, others just are generally long winded and snobbish...

give me a break...

let's get back to basics and maybe just every now and then have an innocent discussion about de selby's posts!

Personally I am going to wait to see if and how Prometheus explains himself.

On the other hand, with *some* people around here at the moment "classical snobbery" doesn't quite explain it. 'Lack of social skills, lack of acceptance of other peoples point of views and general inability to play nicely with the rest of the class' is how I'd put it.

In one thread we have the classic 'is hi-res detectable by the masses argument', how many times have the people involved probably been through that before? Can anybody say 'trainwreck'? You'd think people would have the sense to treat such an issue with care lest it descend into a bitchfest...

I generally think it's good that Zeus tries to avoid getting involved, and seems to prefer letting people sort things out themselves. Sadly it seems *certain* portions of our little community need nannying :(

Whilst the topic we are all discussing is sacd and its a worldwide forum, there is always a danger of misinterpretaion..Even though it is usually discussion in the English Language there are so many variations on meanings and acceptance, tolerances and what constitutes good manners...The fact that not everybody agrees with the technical points brought up associated in the sacd subject is in itself going to cause friction..We are all on different rungs of the ladder in the sacd hifi world...as well as musical understanding..
..There can probably be no agreed standard of what is considered acceptable...eg I may not agree that someone should consider themselves above criticism and/or in a position to dictate standards to others or even think that others should be nannied... Please note This is not my opinion but could well be someones elses....It may also be possible that nanying will have different conotations to our Swedish German Aussie and USA english writers.
I must also confess my lighthearted but cynical writing of an opera is my personal way of letting off steam when so many people take themselves too seriously...No offense is meant and it is just my way of opening up the topic of sacd.poking fun at thge world in general..Please note I was an analyst by profession and cannot be cured of this affliction at my age.....It is in itself curious that I have had such a reaction to the Opera...You will see my typical response in the "conclusion of the work" as requested by another inmate...Its still work in progress..meanwhile I have purchased an average 9 sacd per week recently and posted reviews at a pretty good rate....So whats everybody elses excuse...Viktor is excepted?.
ps..Last time I was in class, my usual mischieveness got the better of me..I decided to just to put one dot above the umlaut on my German homework...I received a 12 inch ruler accross my knuckles and Nil/punkt...This was a suprise as I was 26 years old at the time and at nightschool....That teacher also came from Berlin.....

.Now am I going to do that Higdon review...I doubt it....Dave

*nod* All good points.
Misinterpretation is a common problem on this here internet thing. It's important to appreciate these communication issues that you have described and to not be too quick to let rip at somebody. On the other hand people need to take care to not state things in a way that would be likely to come across as offensive.

I was a little puzzled by the opera but didn't find it offensive... 9 SACDs a week?! Alright for some! I've been out of work and signed off sick for the past 7 months, managing 1 or 2 SACDs a month at the moment. I do have the Naxos Rachmaninov Piano Concertos waiting for a listen though :)
