Any ideas why some labels are so intermittent with releases? Does someone at the label just feel really strongly that a particular release should be a SACD, and only feels that way once a year or so?

In the case of the new Hänssler disc, the participation of Stuttgart Radio may account for the SACD release. All of the label's SACDs seem to have been produced in collaboration with or by Southwest German Radio in Stuttgart and Freiburg, which has the required technical resources in both cities. The situation may be similar with Latvian Radio.

Somewhat off topic, Southwest German Radio just announced that it will merge its two orchestras in Stuttgart and Freiburg (previously Baden-Baden) into one in a few years. Brave new world ...

CDJapan have confirmed to me that the Paavo Jarvi disc of Schumann Symphony 2 & Overtures on Sony Red Seal issued in July 2012 and listed as a 'CD' is in fact a hybrid-SACD. It is also recorded in DSD as most Red Seal's are.

Have just placed an order and if nobody enters it on here in the meantime, I will do so once it arrives. There is also an Amazon link but they're showing it at £30 + shipping from Japan whereas CDJapan are quite a bit cheaper.

If you want the disc just be patient on your search of the CD Japan website, it is in there somewhere and best found from my experience by searching just Paavo Jarvi discs but not limited to SACD. You will find it as a 'CD' but click on that to buy and you'll find they have up-dated the sales info. on the order page. Persist!

So, Where Are You? is in mono. What a waste...because it's a truly stunning 1957 stereo recording, in fact I think it was Sinatra's first stereo record. Crossed off the list for me unless reviews convince me otherwise.
