Could be some impressive playing here. Hard to say what will happen with the Bergen playing what I have viewed as typically American fare especially with the original jazz version for Rhapsody. Your first Gershwin recording, right Robert?

I don't buy into these nationalistic theories that somehow American orchestras no how to perform Gershwin better than non-American orchestras, that only British orchestras can do justice to Elgar, etc.

What really matters is how they approach the music as serious works of music or pops fluff.

It is.
No, I have a record of Gerswin solo piano with Dag Achatz. BIS-CD-404.

Neither do I, and have stated so in the past. We do see typically American orchestras doing their best with Gershwin; this will be an interesting disc to hear from an orchestra from another tradition.

Hope they've wound up the rubber band to 96kHz this time

Maestro59 used to play and lead the BSO with this showpiece years ago. Believe me he is no slouch on the ivories and the disc would be as much fun had he done so here.

Seconded. Props to the appropriate people.

This will face stiff competition, though...on SACD it has to compete with Wild and Bernstein (not everyone's taste, but I personally love it). But I'm intrigued.

This version includes the original Jazz Band version of Rhapsody, which gives it a big leg up on other discs. I'm also not aware of there being a recording of the Second Rhapsody on SACD.
