There is a thread over at the Steve Hoffman forum discussing rare SACDs. A member posted the link below showing a rare Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Super Audio CD (SACD) 24k Gold Sampler that sold on ebay for $500.00. Some questioned if this SACD was an actual MFSL disc or a fake. Has anyone ever seen of heard of this SACD before?

Have no idea. The center ring, with the barcode and the "star" symbols, make it look like a Sony pressing. Can't really tell what is the IFPI code.

From all indications, I am leaning towards to the side that this is a legitimate SACD. Never seen the word "Experimental" ever used even on pre format introduction SACDs....or CDs, for that matter. It could just be a one-off item to do testing. Is it worth the asking price? I suppose so if one has the financial means, is a collector, and has a historical interest in the SACD format.
