Please be warned that there's a possible duff batch. I received my copy this morning but it had a big editing problem for about 1 minute in the R&J (approx 16 mins - 17 mins) where the surround channels just completely disappeared! I thought that maybe I had a loose connection but all the other discs I have work fine & putting this disc back in gives the same problem at the same time - I haven't had time to see if this affects the symphony as well; the 2 channel mix is fine. Fantastic account of the R&J (apart from the editing glitch). Am about to contact CC & will post their response once I get it...

Please post a review of the symphony when you can. The number 4 is probably my favorite Symphony and would like to see how this rates (especially if you can contrast this with either Mravinsky / Leningrad or Jansonns / Oslo)

Thanks!

Will do! Sadly (for both you & me) I don't know either of the recordings you mention, but I'll do my best to give an impression of how it's played.

Sad to say, this is the response from CC:

I am sorry to say that you are correct in this.
I could go into this more deeply except to say as a beta tester for the SACD software, I have had many a sleepless night because of the computer doing strange things. This was one of them.
Unfortunately at the moment we have too much in stock to make a reorder yet with a new master. This will not happen again!
By the way, our new Mahler 6 is just going out the door and this has really turned out fantastic - (with no mutes!)

Thanks for your (I hope continued) support. And good ears!

For a self-proclaimed "audiophile" label, that's a pretty pathetic response. Even the movie industry will immediately issue new DVDs (for free) if a film is overrmatted, a problem that few people will ever notice, and something the studio could easily ignore.

I guess this is one SACD I will definitely not be buying.

I was mulling this over and have to agree - I'm going to return this on principal now. I just smacks of "I don't care & can't be ar*ed to sort it out..." Up until now, I had a lot of respect for CC but this has lowered my estimation of them no end. Very sad.

Doesn't bother me. Romeo and Juliet isn't what I'm really buying this SACD for in the first place. I'll still buy it.

Please be aware, before doing so, that I've now found a similar problem for about 20s in the Finale of the Symphony so that isn't safe either...
