Only one hearing, but I'm not thrilled. A much slower, laid-back first movement in Dances. The tempo comes up for the third, but where is the fire? I generally like Gergiev, but... SO far this lacks the bite that I'd expect from Rachminov's final, most "modern" work.

Listening again today. Still not in love with the Rachmaninov, but I do like the Stravinsky. Gielen and the composer have been my favorites in this. I also like Frost. But this one brings out a different side to the work. It put me in mind of the Song Of The Nightingale. Recommended for the Stravinsky.

Agreed. The Stravinsky is good but the Rachmaninov is blah.
