Which one you prefer buying SACD, from the local shop or from the web?

I never see any SACDs in local shops.

I prefer to support the SA-CD.net and buy through the links on this site whenever possible.

Me too, plus my local classical CD shop is way more expensive than online sellers. Must admit though, they still get me for the odd impulse buy when I'm passing by!

I'd like to continue to support the site as well, but the tiny little problem is that most new issues are no longer listed here. On one hand, record companies have completely ignored SA-CD.net's new submission procedure, and on the other, going strictly by the rules, members are not really allowed to submit discs based on information available online.

I wonder who will lose the most in the end, as a result of the new submitting policy:

a) the SA-CD.net users (overlooking new SACDs),
b) labels issuing SACDs (suffering from decreased sales),
c) Zeus (losing income from sales and decreased traffic to the site),
d) all of the above

Apart from the fact that I hardly ever see SACDs in shops, whether here in the UK or abroad, I prefer buying online.

Even before I discovered SACDs (around 5 - 6 years ago), I had discovered that I preferred buying music online - as opposed to using shops. What put me off shops, was being generally forced to listen to music not of my taste, in poor audio resolution at levels not condusive to shopping. Admittedly, and it's interesting to note the difference, the "classical/orchestral" departments tended to be separated from the other genre - and if music was playing, it was as background/more discrete levels. On top of that, selecting often scratched empty Jewel Boxes and going to the counter to get them filled (which is how it was done in one of the last Virgin or HMV stores I visited about a decade ago), also wasn't my sort of thing.

I suppose I should add that one side of me feels sorry for some of these retailers, particularly those that take care and are knowledgeable, but when one is met by shoulder shrugs when enquiring after SACDs (and DVD-As) by shop staff unaware of the format - it's easy to lose enthusiasm. I did come across two shop staff in differnt shops and countries in the last several years (Germany and Hungary) that were aware of the format - and even had a few for sale - and their knowledge and enthusiasm was encouraging, even if the literal handful of titles available were swamped by standard CDs.

+1 for me.

I have used the links many times, and I hope that whatever the problem is with new releases being listed here, that it will soon be corrected.

It would be a shame for Zeus to loose out on the potential income through these links.

I prefer to buy from my local shop, but it's increasingly hard to do. Classical Millenium and Silver Platters (in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA) get my vote.
