i have owned the sony scd-1 for some time now and am thrilled with it,
however i understand at one time, sony also marketed a platform or base
the scd-1 sits on to further reduce vibrations. can any one tell me the part/model number and where i might be able to find one?.

i have already contacted sony and was unsuccessful in my quest.

thanks.

You might want to check out Mapleshade Records website. They offer solid Maple platforms and brass points which I'm sure would exceed anything SONY would offer. They also suggest putting the brass points under the player, as well. Interesting catalog and offerings.

Note that the 'problem' is caused predominantly by internal vibrations not external ones. The Sony original feet are renowned for being 'complete rubbish' and that is simply because very effectively they trap internal vibrations from the mains transformer in the box.

Try standing it on 3 Something Solid Dissipating Feet. Dirt cheap but a million bucks worth of improvement. Will cost you about $40.

If you are really rich one of the best accessories on the market is the Vertex aq Reference Kinabulu Support Cones but they'll set you back $750 for a set of three. If it is helpful, I use them under all my boxes but am not really rich!

The aim is to conduct extraneous internally generated vibrations away from the box(es) to an external sink, which is the role of energy dissipating feet.

Also go for the VSE upgrades, the subject of many threads on here. Most definitely not dirt cheap but transformative.

The more you use this website, the richer you become.. it is very persuasive.

And some of these very vendors deserve to make a buck as their R&D has significant value ONLY IF YOU AVAIL YOURSELVES OF THE ONES THAT REALLY DO WORK instead of very IGNORANTLY dismissing them as SNAKE OIL!

I cannot clearly recall any platform but I do have a lush book about the SCD-1 (and the SACD format). I'll see if it's featured there, when I find back my book. I'm afraid it's stashed away in a box between my old office stuff.

Is it not better to try and fail than never to have tried at all. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

Sorry to go all scriptural on you but maybe it's deserved. What's to lose? Nobody gets rich selling twenty buck hi fi accs.
