The Who's masterpiece Quadrophenia will debut on SHM~SACD on May 30, 2012 complete on a single disc.

Of course, the complete boxed set which has just been released does include 8 songs in 5.1 DVD~A and of course, the SHM~SACD is stereo, only.

The question: to buy and or not to buy because I would really love to 'experience' the entire album in high~rez 5.1...preferably in the SACD format.

Did I answer my own question?

I'm with you. I think I would prefer this in multichannel hybrid SACD.

Wasn't Pete Townshend working on the multi-channel mix for this title for a while? I'd love to see it on hybrid multi-channel SACD, but if it's just a stereo single-layer SACD, I guess I'll have to settle.

It may be (but not certain) due to the fact that Townsend is partially deaf. IMO, Quadrophenia should've been accorded the same treatment (and pricing) as Tommy.

I have heard that the 8 tracks which were remastered to 5.1 included in the immersion set (for Quadrophenia) were pretty amazing sounding.

We can only hope for a 'newly remastered' BD disc of the movie to experience Quadrophenia in lossless surround (as a recent BD release of Quadrophenia got extremely poor marks for Picture Quality).

But, at the very least, the upcoming SHM~SACD is only one disc (and not two like Live At Leeds on SHM~SACD)!
