I have about 40-50 japanese SHM-SACDs, most of them very good to excellent in sound quality.
But these two Dire Straits titles are "dogs". It seems to me that bad dub-tapes has been used. Everything is wrong with the sound.
Avoid!
My ratings of Dire Straits SHM-SACDs so far:
Dire Straits S/T = 6 out of 6
Love over Gold = 4/5 out of 6
Making Movies = 2/3 out of 6
Communique = 2/3 out of 6

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I always wait for reviews on SACDs listed here before purchasing but I was close to jumping on Making Movies. The S/T is outstanding and I've heard really good things about Love Over Gold too, just not quite as good things as the self titled. Let us know how Alchemy is. I have the bluray and I absolutely love it but if it is worth it than I will definitely get it. Same with Brothers in Arms.

It will hopefully arrive tomorrow, and given enough time before having to pick the nippers up, I'll give it a good listen to as well as comparing to the original CD issue.
Love Over Gold sounds great, IMO, so I wouldn't hesitate.
Brothers in Arms sounded very early digital on the original SACD, so it'd have to get some rave reviews to make me part with €60.

SHM-SACD Making Movies is not SO bad ....
Rainbow Rising is definitly the worst SHM-SACD !!!!
