Hi Guys!
I searched the forum and couldn't find anything about this.
I Love SACD!! I have been a great SACD advocate from the beginning, when I worked full-time at Chandos Records (I am freelancer now) we dipped out feet in very early. At that time (around 1999-2000) I got a two channel Sony SCD777ES which was replaced after a firmware problem, (very loud buzz as the disc stopped!) and the replacement proved to be faultless until it became old and unreliable.
Nearly a year ago now I replaced it with a Marantz KI Pearl Lite, which I think sounds wonderful. But, every time it changes track it produces a small click through the speakers, has anyone noticed this yet? No reviewer has. The dealer I bought it from has now heard it once I pointed it out to him. Marantz has stated it has no problems with the machines, suggesting that it is a Sony DSD problem!!! I never noticed this with the Sony.
I have pointed it out to Hi-Fi News via email letter, but no response; they have reviewed the machine twice!
Does anyone get clicks on any other player as the time display changes to the new track and always as the disc stops? I’m sure anyone with a KI Pearl or Pearl Lite will hear it, I wonder how far this has gone through to other manufacturers’ players. It is a shame to spoil such high res playback with such a stupid fault!?! And it gradually drives you mad. They can’t stick their heads in the sand and keep on producing faulty machines.

It will not help you, I am afraid, but the early Oppo BDP 83 did that for awhile on SACD only. It was cured by a firmware upgrade several years ago. You will have to take it up with Marantz.

My Oppo BDP-80 still does it even with the latest (and last, I am afraid) firmware. One reason to listen to the CD layer with a cheap player. Some cheap CD-players do the same thing if the track marks are not exactly at the frame junctions, even though the RedBook does not require it. In a word: bad and careless design.

The Oppos were plagued by these problems for a while, as were some of the Sony Blu-ray/SACD players. They all used the same Sony-sourced transport mechanisms.
I know that Oppo changed the transport in the current generation of players to a non-Sony sourced one. I don't know if the current players have these sorts of problems.
I use the Marantz SA-8003, the player that the Pearl-Lite design is based on. All these players (SA-8003, SA-8004, Pearl-Lite, Pearl) use a Pioneer-sourced transport mechanism. I have not had many issues (it has clicked maybe once or twice in two years).
These (Marantz) players have a five year warranty. Have you considered having it repaired or replaced?

In the Oppo BDP-83, the slight inter-track ticks with SACD were not the transport, which was never Sony-sourced. It was purely firmware. It stopped doing it after a firmware upgrade about 2 years ago, as I know from direct experience. No transport or hardware changes were involved. It was never an issue on the newer Oppo 93/95. The 93 is my current player.

The SA-7 does that as well but the 'clicks' are barely audible. It happens at the end of discrete recorded tracks but not at the end of all musical movemnets and always at the end of a disc. It serves to remind the listener that a track or the disc is finished. It sounds like an internal reset.
It is not something that has caused me any concerns at all.

What if a SACD or CD had a slight click at ever track change? Would that be something worth mentioning in a review?

Until now I had noticed it rather than considered it to be a fault.
However, it's pointless trying to get help or advice from Marantz UK / Europe as nobody ever calls back or bothers with the simple courtesy of replying to e-mails.

It has happened to me with all machines I have owned (Pioneer, Cambridge Audio and Marantz), though with different levels of audibility. Interestingly, I have never heard those faults on RBCD playback. On SACDs, it seems to me that the machine kind of "disengages" from one track and engages on the following. And this disengagement might be producing the clicking sound. Forgive me for the poor knowledge as I am not anything close to an engineer. I have got used to the click but definitely consider this issue a design related problem, inherent to SACD playback. And of course, I would enjoy solving it.

A click between tracks on playback of a SA-CD is a players fault and not an "issue a design related problem, inherent to SACD playback".
We spend hours in mastering taking out similar clicks, whether they are acoustical or electrical, and a player should not introduce new ones on playback.
