Amazon does this with ANY Japanese imports (and other imports too), it's unrelated to the fact they are SACDs.

I'm guessing it has to do with them being specialty ordered from Japan, that Amazon pays full price plus full shipping then they need a profit on tip of that.

Prices in Europe also include VAT (around 20% in most countries), which the buyer may have to pay separately to the customs when ordering discs directly from Japan.

But it's true that japan imports are much more expensive in european stores than US imports, which is difficult to understand. Maybe it's the added value of the OBIs ;-)

Does Amazon Japan ship to the US? If so, what is the charge for a single disc? I've tried ordering from Amazon France and UK, and even if they list the US as a country to which they will ship, when I get ready to check out, I get a message that states they cannot ship to my address.

Fugue worldwide distribution would solve this problem. Universal USA and UK SACDs were available worldwide by their vast distribution networks, why not the same courtesy for Universal Japan SACDs? SACD lovers in the rest of the world are hungry for new SACDs not just Japan.
