I have both the Japan SACD of Love Over Gold and the new BG-cut vinyl pressing from WB. The latter in my opinion handily trounces the SHM-SACD.

The S/T SHM-SACD is magnificent, but LOG was not on the same level.

I really like Chuck Ainley's 24/96 5.1 mix of Alchemy on the Blu-ray, so won't be interested in that one, but will definitely consider Making Movies to shoot-out against the also-excellent WB pressing of that.

And the SACD of Brothers In Arms that's still very affordable, no need to upgrade that one. Sounds amazing in surround, Man's Too Strong has wonderful LFE.

Wasn't Brothers in Arms an early DDD recording? Not sure how they can improve it on SACD.

Discussed this in depth a few years ago on AA. Multitrack 16 bit, mixed to a target of > 16 bits is, well. > 16 bits. Sample rate? No, that can't be improved. But that's not all there is to it. There are ways to get > 16 bits of dynamic range out of the original multitrack. So, taking full advantage of SACD, no. But, better than CD, yes.

SHM SACDs are all single-layer 2ch - unless someone can correct me?
