That's only £600. The Oppo is £1000 over here.

Well at least the Sony XA5400ES, the Marantz Pearl Lite and the Pioneer PDD 9 Mk2K
all of which I have tested in my own system

What the cost is in the UK is not relevant; the O.P. is in the US.

Which one of these units you mention is a Blu-Ray player, and which of them did you do a direct side by side comparison to the 95?

Well then, I guess it was pointless for him to have brought them into the conversation when the thread has to do with SACD capable Blu-Ray players.

Yes, is it because they think that bluray is not adequate for SACD reproduction? In the end, bluray players are more than adequate to do SACD well and the Oppo models especially are great at doing SACD. Heard enough about the Sony 5400.

Based on my experience with my Oppo 980H (not a BD player, but I'm very happy with it's SACD performance via analog outputs), I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of the Oppo BD players.

My sentiments, exactly. That's why I bought one and don't regret it.

Think about it FD......it plays RBCD and SACD.......that's it!

And the HDMI output is NOT sharing bandwidth with video, as well.....video circuits are always active on the OPPO as SACD info is output to video monitor at all times).

That's why it beats my OPPO (using the same exact brand HDMI cable) hands down in multichannel.

Locate one, if you can and give it a LOT of break~in time and you will DEFINITELY hear what the fuss is all about.......

And the price won't break the bank.

Of course, the HDMI output is shared with video since the audio rides on the video signal and, if there was no video (720p or higher) and synch, audio output via HDMI would be impossible. Note that, if you display the video output from the 5400, it is uniform blue and not the noise display you would see from a lack of synch/source. That said, the video output from the 5400 is constant and not modulated.

Right, Kal, and dear rammie is once again misinformed. Incidentally, you can do the same on an Oppo 83/83SE/93/95 by pressing the "pure audio" button on the remote. That cancels video processing and replaces it with a constant video signal on which the audio signal rides. I have not spent a lot of time listening with this feature on/off, but so far, I have yet to hear the difference.

I may be misinformed on that point (re: video output of 5400ES) but my ears don't deceive me and on that point I'm quite positive. It does sound remarkably better.

But the OPPO is a great BD player (I should know I own four of them) so why would I knock them if I didn't think the 5400ES was better at mch SACD playback?

And my tweaks raise the performance of ALL my players to a new level, altogether............something everyone else is misinformed on because they don't bother to apply them......Oh well.

Imagine all the folks who laughed at the Wright Brothers......

And when you're right, you're right.
