Thanks for the heads-up on this one! Kalmar has transformed the Oregon Symphony, and I've always loved the two major works.

Is this a one-off, or can we expect more Pentatone releases from Oregon in the future?
By the way, this was recorded by Sound Mirror, I'm thinking that is a first for Pentatone?

Don't know about the future, but I'm hopeful. John and I drove the equipment van across the country in early May for that gig. A most memorable trip.
Soundmirror has done several Pentatone recordings, and several US assists. The Pittsburgh Symphony Strauss: Alpine Symphony, and Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique come to mind.

Wonderful news. As we have discussed before, bringing all thees talents together can be only good news from the point of view of advancing the recording art.
Now we need a more aggressive Sound Mirror with the confidence and clout that can solicit top US orchestras to go the SACD route as per Pentatone / Polyhymnia.

Tom,
I'm glad you liked the trip and Oregon. Did you stop at Classical Millenium? How about working with the Seattle Symphony?

Thanks for putting up those links. I enjoyed the interview with Kalmar. It also confirmed what I think is a fact: Those who can, DO. Those who can't, become broadcasting commentators. And I say that as a broadcaster, with tongue only partially in cheek.

Unfortunately I was in PDX for only a day. I did look for Rose's Delicatessen though, and it had gone out of business at the NW location I once knew. We did a great Micro Brewery though.

Thank you for coming to Oregon and recording the OSO! Please come back soon and record them again. May I suggest using the concert hall at George Fox University instead of the the schnitzer concert hall.
