Hello Groot Geluid

i have very much enjoyed your recordings on many different labels (hope lots of it will come to SA-CD). Since i came to know that all of the Caro Mitis recordings are made by Polyhymnia i continiously look out for them in record stores. I haven't found one recording yet. Is there any way to buy these recordings besides internet (i dont like to give a credit card number over the www)Is there a distributor for switzerland ?

besides that:
on a Pilips mid price remaster of an analog recording i read "digital conversion by bitstream". What's that, something similar to DSD ?

and what about the "Jaap de Joong vacuum tube equipment" mentioned on some Philips recordings. Is it a predecessor to what you use at Polyhymnia or do you still use it today ?

I would advise to take your question about availability to the website of Caro Mitis http://www.caromitis.com/eng/index.html and with the info where you need to be able to buy the disks. There is no distribution in Switserland as far as I know, but again please contact Caro Mitis direct.

The Philips re-masters with bitstream are converted with high sampling rate and then with noise shaping converted to 16 bit 44.1kHz. In a way similar to DSD to PCM conversion.

Jaap de Jong is free lance engineer who built his own tube design mixing console. For many of the Philips recordings with Gergiev and the Kirov we worked with him and his equipment. I liked the sound of it very much and it showed me that many capsules of well known microphones sound much better with other electronics. The development of our own equipment is not a follow up of Jaap's equipment, but the principle of keeping the highest audio qualitiy from the signal of the microphone capsule is certainly what is behind Jaap's and Polyhymnia'a approach.

Since we have our complete chain of microphone buffer amps, microphone pre-amps and DSD digital workstations, we are very happy and proud to use this (in our view) fantastic sounding recording chain.

I hope that Caro Mitis disks will abailable soon everywhere, as I am also very proud of the results we are having with those projects, soon there will be several new releases, and we continue to work on new recordings in Moscow.

There are 7 cds by Tal & Groethuysen on Sony of complete Schubert piano duet pieces.
They played on the famed piano.
The cds probably are out of print, but you should be able to track them. All worth the effort, especially if you love Schubert piano pieces.
