'Gramophone' have given this SACD a rave review and have suggested that this Bruckner survey may well turn out to be amongst the best of the 21st Century.
Against such praise my own seems pathetic but I love this recording from beginning to end. Now, I don't need to write a positive review.
As we have said repeatedly on here the 7th is the work that made Mr B's name so to speak. Newcomers should start here. You can grow to love the old fella despite your understandable hesitation.

Thanks, Hiredfox. Bruckner is still relatively new to me, but there are parts of his seventh that I adore. I look forward to hearing this recording. Ordered through Amazon.com link.

Sounds like David Hurwitz has his own very particular axe to grind. His simplistic view of Bruckner is frankly silly and his view of this new disc is totally counter-intuitive. Best never to ask a nay-sayer for a balanced and neutral opinion.
I'd back Rob Cowan (Gramophone) any day of the week.
As one who "has grown to like" Bruckner and believe you me at times in my life it has been a hell of a struggle let me say to a newcomer it is worth the candle...

FYI, Hurwitz praised the Janowski Bruckner 8 to the hilt: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=13088
I agree with him on the 8th despite my previous dislike for much of Janowski's conducting. I have no intention of buying this 7th.

As Balance engineer of all the series so far, I must say that I find Maestro Janowski's approach very consistent and his insight into the music very deep and revealing, and his ability to convey it to the orchestra and the recording team inspiring. All the symphonies have a different character and the orchestra with Janowski are producing real dedicated performances of great allure.
In this time of real difficulties in the recording industry it is a real privilege to take part in such a series of recordings under almost ideal session conditions, as those were perhaps more normal a few decades ago.
As a blatant plug, I am very curious how the French album http://sa-cd.net.customers.tigertech.net/showtitle/7417
will be received by the loyal SA-CD net readers and contributors. I for one had great pleasure working on that project.

I find Hurwitz' recommendations often strange, so I'll just settle on the Bruckner 8's I already own, particularly since it has only one movement I particularly enjoy (the 8's length is not it's strength). Of the Bruckner 7's I have, Janowski's is one of the most enjoyable of this most enjoyable symphony. But, to be fair, I leave the score peeping to others.
Bruckner, of course, is tremendously popular in Central Europe, so Hurwitz's contention that Bruckner is a fringe composer is just ignorant sillyness.

I have countless B7's on RBCD, the SACD worth waiting for is the Fischer/BFO on Channel which I believe is scheduled to be recorded later this year.

I have several as well. Fischer is often very good, but I'm not sure he is the most formidable Brucknerian. Bruckner demands weight and gravitas, a la Giulini or Karajan, for example.
