Does anyone know anything about the plans of A&M records on their release schedule of SACD's for the next months or year? Will for instance all previous albums of Sting be re-released at SACD as well? This seems to be quite plausible because A&M records already finished the re-release of all former Police albums at SACD and already established DVD audio versions of Stings' "Nothing Like the Sun" and "Ten Summoner's Tales", however, do anyone have some more inside information or an internal contact (at A&M records)? Unfortunately their website shows nihil info on this issue.

I'd love to get some Sting SACDs. How about some Janet Jackson, Squeeze, etc... I'll even take Bryan Adams SACDs.

A&M is now part of Universal, which put all their future SACD plans on hold at the end of 2004.

That's not entirely true. Carpenters' "The Singles" SACD (BTW, on A&M) was released in January 2005. Subsequently, there were also a number of classical SACDs released in April 2005. But yes, previously announced SACD titles from John Fogerty and Linda Ronstadt are turning out to be vaporware.

I got a reply of Universal Records:

" Currently there are no plans to release Sting's back catalog on SACD.

Best regards,

UMG New Formats "

So for the moment that's the info we have to life with.

I wonder what happened to the Moody Blues SACDs? Perhaps that's another thread.

And what about Steely Dan? Shown on the UMG website as forthcoming releases and then yanked. Curse you Universal!!!!

Since DVD-Audio as a format was surpassed by SACD (by titles numbers, selling counts, cross-compatibility and sonic quality) last years, I get the impression that part of the music industry first would like to see the outcome of the DualDisc - the rather forced respond of DVD-Audio on cross-compatibility - to see if the success of SACD will continue (and to what extent) or not. I think this will temporary cause some restraint on the re-release of old albums on SACD; apparently DVD-Audio has strong internal advocates at some labels.

SACD on major labels are pretty much dead - judging by the number of pop/rock/jazz new releases on Dualdisc... hopefully the classical side of things can revive SACD if Dualdisc doesnt take off... we can only hope i guess... especially that the classical titles can remain strong
