Thread: Peter Gabriel "Security"/ Remastered CD vs SACD?

I have the original CD release of "Security" and would love to have it on SACD, but prices for this title are very high from sources I trust (at least for my budget). I noticed there is a "remastered" CD version available and was wondering if anyone can comment on the quality improvements, if any, of the remastered CD and SACD over the original CD release. Would the remastered CD be worth a purchase, or should I continue to search for an affordable copy of the SACD?

Of course it would be fantastic if they would release a multichannel version of "Security" like they did with "Up" (love it!), but it looks like that's never going to happen.

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

For what it is worth: I had the remastered cd version of security, and found it very good. Good dynamics, clear sound. A little while later I bought the SACD version (when it was still affordable). That really sounded very good! In my opinion, I could hear the difference with the cd version. Actually, I find the security SACD the best of the first four Gabriel SACDs. In particular, the rhythm section is very powerful on the SACD. It is very defined, and stands out of the rest of the music. I had the impression that this was an improvement compared to the remastered CD version. Perhaps better quality master tapes were available for Security.

My suggestion: buy the remastered CD (it is cheap), see how you like that, and wait for a reasonably priced SACD version of this title. Good luck!

PS: Can't say anything to compare these two versions to the original cd version.

FWIW, I have the original from West germany and think that sounds great.
