Being new to sacd (I've had the oppo 980 awhile now I just upgraded my receiver Yamaha RX 1000.Should I be able to get MC sound over HDMI? Both units have MC analog inputs & outputs I thought maybe HDMI would be a better way to go. As of now I only get MC over the MC inputs.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Ed

You should be able toget MCH SACD better and easier with the HDMI cable.

What receiver did you upgrade to? When you mention the Yamaha, is that what you've come from and is it the RX-V1000 or RX-A1000. If you just moved to the RX-A1000 then you should be able to use either MCH-analog inputs or HDMI. I don't believe the RX-V1000 has HDMI at all. According to the owner's manual the RX-A1000 accepts DSD signals, but doesn't specify whether they are always decimated to PCM or not. It's not a very helpful manual for signal processing.

My mistake. It is the RX-A1000.I am getting 2 channel DSD over HDMI,but not MC. For that I have to use analog inputs.

Check what your HDMI output settings are. I think if you have the resolution set too low you're limiting the DSD bandwidth output (although that shouldn't have to be the case).
Try the following settings:
-- General Set-up Page -- SACD Priority - Multi-Channel
-- Audio Set-up Page -- HDMI Audio - Auto SACD Output - DSD
Using the HDMI button on the remote or the button on the front panel, set the output resolution to 1080p.
That should sort it out.
You can swap the SACD Output setting to PCM anytime you like to compare...go with whichever one sounds best. If the A1000 doesn't actually decode DSD>Analog directly, you may be better off with the Oppo doing the PCM conversion.

Those are the audio settings I'm using.Though I did have to change the HDMI setting to 1080P.But still I am only getting 2ch through HDMI.It's not that big a deal I can still use MC inputs.I was just looking to go with as few wires as possible, and possibly better sound quality with HDMI.Thanks to you guys for helping me out.Though any further tips or suggestions are certainly welcome.

Try to check: Downmix mode = 5.1CH
Also, experiment with SACD = PCM

If none of these work, try resetting the player and then reinputting the settings. I had the 980 and couldn't for the life of me get DSD native out, even though I had all the settings correctly. I reset the player and reinput all my settings and biggety bam!
I forget how to do it on the Oppo, but give them a call and ask - 650-961-1118

My experience with Oppo is that they do not understand their own products.
