Discussion: Bernstein - Yutaka Sado & Siena Wind Orchestra

WOW! I won this one eBay, I bid on it because it had "Prelude, Fugue and Riffs". Well, the entire SACD is fantastic sonically and musically with lots of realistic deep bass, beautiful midrange and smooth highs with lots of impact, this is what SACD is SUPPOSED to be about! This is my first Avex Classics, I will be looking for more especially by Yutaka Sado and the Siena Wind Orchestra.

It also has a killer version of the Candide Overture, and the jazziest, sauciest Symphonic Dances from West Side Story I've ever heard. I sent the track listing to Zeus so it should appear shortly.

Always the sniping and innuendo. It's not very becoming.

dcramer no innuendo. I am thrilled with this SACD and would like all future SACDs to sound this great, just a simple request. Finding great SACDs has become harder with Telarc gone. I applaud everyone I find, they are very special indeed!

Why is it not becoming to love great sonics?

Seriously?

Honestly, I see Theresa's post as nothing but a positive contribution. And as such, a welcome respite from some other threads. I've never been much into wind band versions of orchestral works, so I may pass on this, although DSD's review has me interested.

By the way, despite all of the 5 star reviews on this site, SACDs with truly excellent recording quality are few and far between (see the posts related to minimalist miking philosophy on another active thread). So if this is as good as she says, it is a welcome release. I should pause and say that I purchased the Exton Respighi disc following DSD's repeated positive remarks, and was not impressed at all by that disc. I think perhaps our differences may be related to my MC system, whereas she listens in stereo only.

I have this and like it - I bought this because of the Bernstein material.

I notice there are other recordings by these forces that I may be tempted to try.

diw I am sorry you didn't enjoy the Exton Respighi, which one did you get? Some have said that Exton didn't do multichannel very well, perhaps yet another reason their new SACDs are stereo-only.
