So is half of this already released on Two Generations? If so, not very nice to expect me to purchase it again to get all 3 Quartets.

Inconvenient, yes, but my enthusiasm for Kuijken Two Generations moved me to purchase this issue also. Just part of the cost of acquiring a to-die-for performance/recording of the heart of Beethoven's quartet output.

Hmm, perhaps its time for another Limmerick contest with the extraneous Op. 59/3 as the prize to the most inspired maddness....

Who is the fifth player in the quintet?

Is there any reason to hope for the Late Quartets from this ensemble? The Tokyo Qt is fine, but it is always nice to have different perspectives!

The Kuijken family appear to enjoy the role of string quartet as much as I enjoy their music-making -- and I sense an unfolding pattern here, viz. we now get the complete Opus 59s BECAUSE the earlier disc was 'well received' aka sold well. If this latest offering gets snapped up, Op. 74 and 95 would be an obvious and very desirable sequel perhaps in 2012.

Doing The Lates is a MAJOR undertaking, but we can hope....

Note: The quartet was founded in 1986; Marleen Thiers was the original violist.

I was thinking about this last night before falling asleep, and it occured to me that the Don of this musical mafia, Uncle Wieland, would probably be happier to lay down his beloved viola da gamba and again pick up the violoncelle IF the oeuvre were Haydn quartets rather than Late Beethoven.

There are serious holes in the SACD coverage of Haydn!

It is noteworthy that the amazon.com price has dropped precipitously of late. I had to preorder it.
