My sacd-player is chocking on the first track of this SHM-SACD at 5:19. Anyone with a similar problem? The player just skips ahead to the second track.

Yes, others have reported the same problem. But not all have that problem, and some only have this problem from time to time, not always.

What player do you have?

How is the sound quality?

My player is a Marantz DV7001. Sound quality is superb. Very much clarity and detail, pleasant to listen to.

Same problem on my old Pioneer DVD/SACD player.

I've had no problem with this disc. (Marantz Sa7).

There is a copy for sale at amazon.com (outofarea) with the same problem on a Sony ES5400. After reading the seller's description (Supposedly not a disk defect according to Universal, but I think it probably is...) I must say Universal is a strong believer in coincidence...

I contacted CDJapan, where I purchased this disc. Their reply:

"It is a fact that the music skips issue have been reported from some customers.

However according to Universal Music side, the CD Standard is no problem at their side, but the skips occur from some player.

Since the CD Standard is no problem, they do not accept any replacement.
Even if we send the new CD to you, if you play the new one at same player, it will be skipped again in the same track.

Please try to use other player, and check if the skip is occurred."

Very awkward reasoning by Universal! This should be a Super High Material SACD. I would not expect these CDs to skip. As more customers are experiencing this skipping, I find it hard to believe it is NOT an issue with the quality of this disc.

We could prove Universal's stament untrue, if we could find cases of identical players of which some play the SHM-SACD with the error and some play the disc without the error.

Thus: are there users with one of the following players that are able to play this SHM-SACD without the error:
- Marantz DV7001
- Sony ES5400
- Pioneer DV-575A

And perhaps there are other cases? If so: please post them!

I've got two Oppo's, the 980H and BDP-83. The 980H exhibits the skipping problem on the Stevie SHM-SACD while the BDP-83 doesn't. This is consistent with Bowie's "Heathen" which won't play through the first track on the 980H but works flawlessly on the BDP-83.

So there are definitely some players that can play all the way through "Love's In Need Of Love Today," but it seems highly unfair if you have a player that can't for a $60 disc.

No problems with this disc with the Denon A1UD and the Cambridge Audio BD 650.

Thank you for your replies and info. I've also contacted Marantz to hear their explanation. It does feel a bit unfair that the $60 disc wont play correctly. And what's more frustrating: it's a damn good disc! Argh.
