The (excellent) live recordings are not made by PentaTone, but made by by ARCH MEDIA ARCHIVES for the St Louis Symphony Orchestra. PentaTone's producer Job Maarse had a longstanding relationship with Hans Vonk (PentaTone also was his last recording company). When Hans Vonk learned that he would soon pass away he asked Job to release a selection of the live recordings of his concerts in St Louis. He had a special relationship with this orchestra and the release of the recordings to document that special relationship meant a lot to him.
The recordings are made as stereo recordings and are owned by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. PentaTone acts as distributor for the Orchestra.

PentaTone only releases recordings on SA-CD which are original surround sound recordings. That's why the Hans Vonk legacy is released on red book CD.

Best, PentaMan

Thanks Pentaman. I had no idea about this arrangement between Job and Vonk.

Julia Fischer and Gordan Nikolic are on youtube playing the first movement of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. Will that video (or one like it) be included with the new SACD, as with the new Helmchen Mozart disc? Its really fun to watch!

We do not intend to include the video with the forthcoming release, but may do so when we release a box with all three Mozart albums at some point in the future. We posted the video on YouTube as part of our campaign to make people vote for Julia after she was nominated for Gramophone's Artist of the Year Award. We will in any even also post the video on the PentaTone wbsite as soon as the next Mozart album (with the Sinfonia Concertante) is released.

Best, PentaMan

Hardly orchestral. Outside of the extra harps, pianos, and basses, it's a pretty normal sized wind ensemble (they often have one of any or all of those)...well maybe extra tubas and fewer trumpets too.

I may have to buy this though, as it sounds very interesting.

Another reason to purchase is that it will very likely be the best recording of the 5th Symphony ever!

Seeing that made me search for more Julia Fischer, and I found this:

I wonder if this was recorded in multichannel, and if so are there plans to release it?

Nice performances, all of these!

I just bought the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra disc with the four Mozart wind concertos (PTC 5186 079), and am hearing weird sounds on track 9, the first movement of the oboe concerto. It sounds as though some woodwind player in the orchestra has a loose screw in the metalwork on his instrument that causes it to make a kind of hollow metallic clack every time a certain note is hit. It seems to be generally in time with the music and to occur only when the full orchestra is playing. This is on the stereo SACD layer. Has anyone else noticed this, or do I maybe have a defective disc?

I hear it. Especially starting just after the one minute mark, it's very audible. I believe it's simply the keys on the oboe itself, as it's synchronized perfectly to the played notes. You'd hear this if you sat close in a live performance, too. I can see how you might think it was a defect, since the sound effect resembles the kind of click you get when a CD is scratched. But it's the oboe!

Hello

Does anybody know what are next releases of PentaTone ?

I read that J. Fischer played Beethoven and Dvorak violin concertos during 2007. Has Pentatone record these concertos ?

Regards

I don't know, but I've been anxious myself. I've found it interesting we haven't heard from Pentaman through the entire Julia Fischer thing--in fact for over two months. I keep checking their web site and it says info coming soon. Hmm

In reviewing the wonderful Pentatone Nutcracker release, last year, I note almost all of us are yearning for the same treatment - release- of Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Any chance of this?

I am wondering about the same, too.

It is a wonderful work, plain magical.
