I just saw an advert for this on TV. Disappointingly there was no mention of SACD at all. Suppose I shouldn't be too suprised really.

It's definitely a 5.1 Surround Sound SACD.

I picked up a copy from Amazon.co.uk before they changed the release date to July 5th. It will be a popular addition to fans of the upcoming War of the Worlds Movie.

There's an article with more details over on High Fidelity Review at http://www.highfidelityreview.com/news/news.asp?newsnumber=19437495

Maybe, maybe not. Many contributors to other music forums purposefully *don't* buy SACD's for fear that they won't play in their machines (yes, even when hybrid). If people get the SACD together with the insert with the surround capabilities without realising it, may be they'd be curious and seek out SACD (for a demo at least). Also, they might buy other hybrid discs in future as they will have been shown to work on their CD player and it might start their SACD collection before trading in their hi-fi....

Mine arrived yesterday - played the SACD's in surround. Sounds pretty good - especially considering the reconstruction job that was done on the master tapes. I wouldn't say that this is a reference recording by any stretch, but for someone who knows and loves the album, it will be awesome.

The deluxe edition is an LP sized hard-bound book containing the 2 SACD's, the DVD and the extra CD's of bonus material. The book contains features on the various performers involved, a piece on H.G. Wells, and related artwork. Fans of LP-sized liner notes rejoice! It's overkill, but nice to have anyway. Lots of pictures.

I am looking forward to listening to the re-mix collection and watching the DVD.
