Well this is exciting, the first MTT offerings besides Mahler. I don't know the Concord, but Copland's Organ symphony is pretty raucous, "modern" fun. Did we need a Beethoven 5th? Hmmm.

I suppose the Concord is the piano sonata orchestrated. And no, we don´t need another Beethoven 5.

Amazon has sound samples with the MP3 version http://www.amazon.com/Ives-Brant-Concord-Symphony-Copland/dp/B004IXB8VU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1295952645&sr=8-2

Amazon's pre-order price for the SACD is $16.24

It's a shame that SFO is using its resources for more Beethoven, but I bet it will sell quite well and be a justifiable programming choice from a revenue perspective.

This new SFO's Beethoven project is a dream come true for those who are waiting for first class SACD sound.

I take it you haven't heard Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 5 - Paavo Järvi etc. or Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4 & in D - Brautigam, Parrott etc.? These are first class recordings in every respect (for modern instruments - there are some who would advocate the use of historical instruments but even though I have sympathy to such a view, I find nothing lacking in either of these cycles) - they'd be welcomed on virtually all but the most unreconstructed listeners shelves. It is hard to see what this disc would add for the vast majority.

I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm, but they're doing a cycle?!? That means 9 releases replacing other potential releases of music much more deserving (needed) of release at this point. Whether or not MTT is a Beethoven conductor who could surpass others from Scherchen to Wand and everyone in between; what about a Bax cycle? A Prokofiev opera? Hindemith for goodness sakes. Copland? Harris?

This looks like a most exciting disc ans one I'll be getting.

It means yet another set of the most recorded works in History, i'm gonna pass because I just don't need yet another set, even on SACD, Karajan 63, Jarvi, Vanska and individual discs from Fischer and others is enough for me, he could have done the Tchaikovsky's Ballets instead, just an example of his strengths...

Sorry, I must add and hope that these new SFO's Beethoven SACD recordings would sound as good as their magnificent Mahler series.
