Has Triton officially ceased making multi-channel SACDs? All of their recent ones seem to be stereo only.

Yes the Exton family of labels now release exclusively "HQ" SACDs which are uncompressed Stereo.

Are any "ordinary" MCH/Stereo Hybrid SACD's necessarily compressed?

Yes they use DST (Direct Stream Transfer) lossless compression which is supposed to be bit perfect. It is necessary to fit both the DSD multichannel and DSD stereo programs. Compression is usually not used if there is no multichannel program. Exton uses the designation "HQ" for their uncompressed SACDs, however from what I have read most stereo-only SACDs are uncompressed.

But if the compression is lossless, then there is no resultant difference. Isn't HQ really just a marketing gimmick to try and justify a far higher price for less work?
