It would be great if someone could step up and review this disc. Spiegel im Spiegel is one of Part's most famous works.

Folks Hi

Not a full review, but I very much enjoyed this disc. Good sound and fine performances.

But why silly price on Amazon UK and US? It was a third of this price when I bought it last year...

Anyway, if you love the music, you can't go wrong.

Hope this helps.

Pleased to hear you like the disc. This is one of many hi-res albums that I've only recently purchased, but haven't yet got around to listening to. I'm not really familair with Part's music, only owning a Naxos DVD-A until recently.

Looking at Amazon UK, it's not their pricing, but Markeplace sellers who are advertising. Strange, I ordered my SACD for only £8.27 from Amazon UK (not a Marketplace Seller) in early December. I wonder if it's in short supply?

Granted, it is challenging to review minimalist music (and I will resist the temptation of a deSelbian minimalist review).

This disc contains beautiful music (not maddening pattern music but real melodic stuff), with the title work performed three times with different instruments. That said, please note the amazon.de price -- thats's what sent me off on a Pärt jag a few months back (and no regrets).

Actually I ended up buying it but only recently listened to it...this is not music that anyone would find challenging to hear - quite simple in structure and harmony. For some reason I decided to put on some Satie after the first time I heard it....and the Satie was more complex. Even so, I am drawn back to this disc on the occasions when I'm looking for soothing, slightly nostalgic music.

Pärt, along with Glass, Reich, Adams et alia, did something very elegant and very therapeutic: they scraped off the barnacles which had accumulated over time upon the hull of music. There is still a good dose of musical complexity in this "simple" music. Listening to this inner core of music is informative to the mind AND therapeutic to the limbic system.
