- The display on the oppo only tells me track number and time elsape.

- I have set the SACD priority to MCH

- Your video res question just made me remeber that I have been experimenting with having the Oppo's faroudja chip upscale dvd-video vs having my new denon(Anchor Bay chip) receiver uscale them. I think I have the oppo set to output minimal reso and let the Denon upscale. That sounds like my issue. I'm rather confident that I have the other settings set correctly. I never checked my reso status(Duh!).

My only other thoughts were that possibly the Oppo was broke, or DSOTM was only recorded in 2 channel stereo, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

You need to look more carefully at the Oppo display. It tells you more.

So I got it all working correctly. The Denon AVr displays "Multi In" when DSOTM is playing. I also verified in the AVr's status that the signal it is receiving is PCM, 3/2/1. My main error was that my Oppo was not set to high resolution output. Once I set the oppo to output 1080i the multi ch signal was sent.

My settings are as follows:

Oppo:
SACD priority - Multi-Channel
Down-mix Mode - 5.1 Ch
Digital Ouput - Raw
HDMI Audio - Auto

The following is the Oppo manual's description of HDMI Auto, which suggest "Auto" is the best setting:

Auto – Digital audio output via HDMI will be the same as the digital coaxial/optical audio output for CD, Dolby Digital and DTS audio signals. For high resolution stereo or multichannel audio contents such as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, the DVD player will send multi-channel PCM audio signals with the highest available sample frequency and bit numbers. Depending on the original audio content, the format could be 44.1kHz - 192kHz, 2 - 6 channels. This option is recommended when connecting the HDMI output to an A/V receiver or processor with HDMI 1.1 or above audio capabilities.

Denon:
Auto setting for audio. When you play a SACD, then MultiCh is displayed. When CDs are played, then Stereo is displayed. When a DVD with DD is played, then Dolby D is displayed.

Thanks for your help.
