Oh! The Johanos/Dallas Rachmaninov disc... Certainly one of the greatest orchestral recordings ever! A triumph for all concerned and a big personal "Bravo!" to Acoustic Sounds for releasing this gem on sacd.

Anyone knows when Donald Johanos's title will be released? Thanks.

Hallelujah! I had thought Analogue Productions had completely forgotten classical.

Staggering on vinyl, I wonder what this will sound like on SACD?

I think it will be a fun comparison! I plan to do the same with the BIS release of La Spagna since we're not dealing with costly SHM-SACDs :-)

Over five months on from its appearence on the Acoustic Sounds website, and still no-show...

And still on backorder.

I have contacted AS and THEY don't seem to know when it may appear.

Advertising an item like this and then not actually bothering to produce it - deeply underwhelming!

It seems to confirm my impression that AS intends to re-release every rock and jazz recording ever made before bothering with anything sordidly classical again.

Or maybe I'm becoming a touch cynical.

Moi?

Now, Now, Jonalogic, almost 90% of ALL new SACD releases are classical in nature.

So few are jazz,. rock and/or Pop.....so don't be so hard on AP.

Yes, I love classical, too but it's always nice to have some variety and besides, it might attract newcomers to the format who are NOT into classical. We really need ALL the support we can get.

Besides, I have that release in DVD~A (from Classic Records 96/24)......and it is a superb recording and I'm sure it will be forthcoming.

Rammepie Hi

Oh dear, I WAS kinda tongue-in-cheek at the time! (moi?)

Especially as I am no stranger to jazz and world music in addition to classical.

My point, seriously, is that AS really shouldn't announce a recording and advertise it for sale on their website so that folk can find nearly 6 months later (and counting...) that it still hasn't appeared.

That's just clumsy business practice. Annoying dedicated customers just makes no sense.

Hmmm - in a different 'brane of the commercial multiverse, Canon has just announced its new pro EOS 1Dx juggernaut*, not available until March next year. But the difference is that they made it absolutely clear upfront this was when you could actually get your sweaty hands on one. That's OK by me, especially considering how production has been affected by the Tsunami and -more recently - the Thai floods.

What excuse does AS have?

Cheers

* can also be used for crushing large boulders...

Off the forum topic a litle I'm a Canon 5DmkII user myself, so I watch these same announcements with a lot of interest. :)

I think the main issue is that Canon doesn't have 4-5 different involved licensing entities and unrelated-to-themselves groups of bean counters to deal with. Releasing music seems to be a whole lot more political than releasing gear.
