Discussion: Caroline Henderson: Don't Explain

After seeing the newly listed review of this album, I was left wondering about this artist since the author hasn't said anything about her. I could understand this if the recording were one of those old chesnuts from times past - like any of Billie's or Sarah's great ones - but since Ms Henderson has not yet reached those lofty heights, I'm hoping some other fan of female jazz vocalists might chime in.

Do we have another Krall or Ravi's daughter here? Does Caroline mesmerize or does she leave you cold? Should I forget about her or order the record today?

Caroline Henderson is a Danish singer that originally ventured into Danish pop and lately have recorded couple of jazz records. Although I have not heard the latest one, she is not quite at the level of Krall and others of that type. Talking about Danish jazz singers the one to buy is Cecilie Norby. She is definately at the international top level, however, unfortunately she is not (yet?) available on SACD.

If I should recommend a record of the type you look for it would be Donna Byrnes: Licensed to Thrill. Although Donna Byrnes do not sing with the same degree of control and ease of Krall, the arrangements are very well done, the sound is great and her singing very enjoyable.

Donna Byrnes is available on amazon.de
