Thank you very much. I am very much under a budget. I am 15 years old and it took me a long time to save up for this. Thanks again.
Hi Kyle where are you? if you are in England (or America of course) Tannoy have good speakers for a budget. I think their website is www.tannoy.com and the range is called "Fusion". If you have the space I would recommend "large" front speakers if possible,. if not a subwoofer would be alright. Best wishes Nick

I am from the United States. I currently have my system in my room which is relativly small for a surround system, but I could easily put my system in our basement which has plenty of room.

That's funny. I was 15 when I invested in my first (and so far only) surround sound system, and put it in the basement.
As I indicated above, the budget becomes a much bigger limitation as soon as you need to add a subwoofer. As Nick recommends, I would seriously consider a 5.0 system. In that case, you could afford small floorstanding speakers. This would save you a pair of stands and cover you not badly for bass. In fact, it should cover you for bass about as well as a small, cheap subwoofer. It would also play more than one bass note, which is nice for music!
See the Paradigm Esprit V.3 under the first link above.
See also this review:
http://www.goodsound.com/equipment/paradigm_esprit_v3.htm
For this system, you'd put a pair of Esprit V.3 in the front and a pair of Titan V.3 in the rear. These speakers all use identical tweeter and 165mm mid-bass units, which is important in surround systems, especially if you are using yours for music. The CC-170 V.3, unfortunately, uses a slightly different mid-bass driver, but you should still be OK with it. For instance, Paradigm provided the CC-170 to the reviewer in the review above, and it obviously sounds fine. If you can, though, get a single Titan for the center.
The total price of that system would be: Esprit ($399) + Titan ($299) + CC-170 ($279) or single Titan ($150). So $977 or $848 (plus stands). Those prices, which I believe are current, are full retail of course, and you should be able to find a bit of a discount at a dealer.

Hallo Crabby,
try to get a set of Magnepan MMG-C (center) and 4 Magnepan MMG-W (front and surround) Without Sub it will cost you $900.- directly from the producer.

5.1 may not be the optimal configuration depending on what your listening habits are. In my case, since I mainly listen to 2-channel music, I have a pair of good quality full-range speakers for that. The surround speakers are different (cheap/small), and I don't use a center speaker. No need for a subwoofer.
In any case, you should look at the used market (e.g. audiogon.com). Perfect condition speakers often sell for about 40% of list price.

I usually listen to classic rock(Beatles, Rolling Stones). My interest in surround was after I listened to Dark Side of the Moon and Madman Across the Water on my current extremely cheap surround system. I don't listen to classical music, but with my first impressions of music in surround, I am thinking about buying a few to see if I like it. So far I own only 3 SACD's(Dark Side of the Moon, Madman Across the Water, and Let it Bleed).

I strongly agree with that suggestion - go for some full-range speakers rather than small ones plus a subwoofer.
