just noticed that, as part of their special deal on Hyperion this month (£9.50 for any redbook CD in the Hyperion catalogue) MDT are very quietly listing all Hyperion SACDs at over 1/3 off, - £11 per disc instead of the usual £18. This includes the Hewitt English suites set, the Planets, etc etc. There goes my pocket money this month!!

oh, for o/s customers they sell less value added tax (17.5%) making them just over £9 ea.

speaking of hyperion, i gently chastised them for their sacd-unfriendly web-site and they've replied that they are currently redesigning the site to incorporate a dedicated SACD page.
They've just released three more SACDs this month, the Hewitt Bach (which, surprisingly, took a bit of a savaging in the latest Gramophone) plus Hamelin playing Shostakovich and Schedrin piano concertos and Kings Consort playing Monteverdi.
Have asked them if they'll be re-releasing any recent (i.e. l;ast 2 years) dsd recorded redbooks on sacd, - will post their reply.

Tell me more about the Hewitt review. I just recently checked Gramofile but it wasn't listed ... I think the lag is some 3-6 months. I really wish they'd move to Zinio (http://www.zinio.com). I'd subscribe to this in a blink.

sadly, the hyperion reply (direct from simon perry) to the re-isue of DSD recorded redbook cds as SCADs was "we have over 60 recordings in DSD made by the brilliant engineer Tony Faulkner but unfortunately the cost implications of re-editing these recordings that are already issued on standard CD far outweighthe demand for such items." So, new recordings only. Not too surprising, i guess, as Telarc seem to save made the same decision about some of their early DSD recorded redbook releases. A shame, though.
Oh, simon also indicated that the Florestan Trio's Beethoven performances "probably would not" be released on SACD (both recent past and near future, presumably).
A final snippet about MDT, which houses the hyperion special i originally wrote about, they've addded all Pentatone hybrid releases to this quarter's sale, - £11 each, the same as the hyperions, - not as much of a discount, but still a good price.

Wow, over 60! All in "yesterday's" stereo only I guess. Anyway, given the way the classical industry works, I'm sure these will appear eventually as special reboxed editions or whatever. Like you, I'd buy the Florestan/Beethoven without hesitation. But since I know the better recording exists, I'm unlikely to buy the CD in the meantime ... so this is currently a lost sale for Hyperion.
