I do not agree with your opinion.
I found this disc very well recorded.But the performance is especially interesting because it goes further into depth and feelings more than other more brilliant hispanic performances. Besides has this interpretation a lot of colours.
I think it is worth buying it in order to understand that Albeniz was a kind of french hispanic composer, with a lot of connections to Debussy etc...

I've been listening to de Larrocha's 1986 Decca CDs over the last few days - if you have them how does this compare?
Also Hyperion have a new set of Iberia with Marc-Andre Hamelin due next month but only on CD. Please Hyperion an SACD release for that!

This is flagged for release as a SA-CD on Hyperion's web site.

I have the Billaut and like it a lot, but I can see why others wouldn't. It's more reflective. I intend to get the Hamelin as well.

The fifth piece (I've forgotten the Spanish name) is one of my favourite pieces of piano music.

There is absolutly NO comparrison.....One is Spamish and like the composer seems to have intended these Spanish evocations to be....She is also Spanish....The other disc is interesting as it makes an alternative and only in patches gets anywhere near the Decca disc...Never close to its sonics...to me I struggle to get to the end of each of these shortish discs...(two is slightly better) I cannot except the fact that the composer met Debussy as an excuse for the interpretation...anymore than I would accept a German conducter turning Vaughan Williams music into an acedemic style.....perhaps someone genuinely Spanish could pass comment...at no point during several listenings can I identify the spanish rythms ,beats stamping castenet influences that are so clear on other intepretaions and variants of this music...guitar/orchestra... I am only listening in two D but cannot believe this would get any more interesting in surround...Dave

Thanks David -funnily enough I don't think Albeniz actually wrote any guitar music (though plenty has been transcribed for the guitar)- perhaps someone could correct me?
I think I'll try the Hyperion when its released.
