According to the SACD white paper, the SACD spec allows for support of text. I know some SACDs have this feature as I have a couple.

Does anyone know if there's a list that includes which discs have this enabled?

My main reason for asking is to verify if the presence of this feature results in a playback problem in my system.

As far as I know, every SACD is encoded with TEXT and if one has the OPPO BDP~83 the info will be displayed on the screen as will the text SACD in the lower right corner. It in no way interferes with the playback of the disc unless your transport is suspect!

Rammiepie is correct, however, there are a few titles I've come across that do not include text. One that comes to mind is Maceo Parker's 'Schools In' which only shows "5.0" on my OPPO BDP-80 indicating there is no LFE. Still a great disc worth seeking out!

I've never checked for SACD Text but on a Hybrid SACD the CD layer may contain CD Text as well. I know some titles do and some don't: My car CD player shows CD Text.

Seems you're right Rammiepie. I have an Oppo BDP-83 but admit I've not used it with a monitor with any regularity when playing SACDs. I asked because the BDP-83 freezes when playing a few disks I have (eg. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) and I thought it might be related to text support but after you mentioned that most SACD disks have this feature, I checked and sure enough most disks do have the feature without freezing the player. So whatever is causing the freeze is not as simple or a broad as just text support. Could be the presence of certain upper ASCII characters - or something else entirely.
Anyway, thanks for the replies.

A quick note - the CA Azur 650BD also displays text on SACD's, probably because it shares the Mediatek chip set common to an earlier Oppo model.

Have you checked oppodigital.com for recent firmware updates? If not, here is the link specifically for the -83: http://oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/bdp-83-firmware-50-0424.aspx

It would probably be worth installing the above firmware, even if it appears to be the same firmware version already on your player (yes, you will need your monitor hooked up to the OPPO to do this as well).

It is unlikely that you would have a handful of problematic discs. Jason and the crew at OPPO are great guys and very customer service oriented. I wouldn't suspect you'd have trouble having your player repaired or replaced. Better to ask now then put it off any longer.

As the owner of both an OPPO 980 and now an OPPO -80, I can tell you that GYBR (both the 2-disc and 3-disc versions) have played fine for me. I don't think text is the issue.

Thanks for the replies.

The hang on GYBR is on the last track of the second disk of the two disk set - Candle in the Wind Acoustic Mix. I know of two other owners besides myself who have issues with this title.

I do have the latest firmware and Oppo is aware (I've had a disk exchange with the tech support team already). They report that they are working with MediaTek on it. I was just trying to figure out which of my disks (I have three so far) might be affected without playing them all.
