Thread: Frustrating lack of information provided by online retailers

What would I do without this site and the links it provides? Probably spend most of my time trying to figure out where they are hiding the SACD's!

My preferred Canadian online retailer seems not to know or care whether a title is an SACD or not. Often labelling them as (IMPORT) or (ENHANCED), they fail to mention that the title is an SACD. Often you are guessing between a regular CD release and a hybrid. They don't provide catalogue numbers either, making it even more difficult. When questioned about this sloppiness, the standard auto generated email response was given, and nothing has changed. Sure, some of the titles are adequately labelled, but lots still aren't. Gee, I wonder why we're not selling many SACD's?

Anyway, rant over - thanks to Stephen and his relentless pursuit of all things SACD. I make sure to shop via the links to support this great site!

The same situation seems to apply over here (Canberra, Australia), and I can only assume that it is related to the relatively slow take-up of the new medium... Only two music stores here seperately stock SACD's, and most don't stock any at all. Also, most have hybrids buried in with regular CD's, making these almost impossible to find.

Similar situation here in Wellington, New Zealand. I find it especially frustrating when I go into a record shop -- and discover that the salesperson hasn't even heard of SACD! When I try and explain what it's all about, he/she tends to show little if any interest, even being openly rude on occasions.

There is another shop in Wellington that started having a small section devoted to the format but when I ring him up and ask for the latest news, I never get much out of him. Perhaps I'm the only person who ever enquires --although I'd obviously like to think not?

I just came back from Abel's annual sale and they had a fair few SA-CDs mixed in: Mercury Living Presence, Harmonia Mundi, Praga Digitals and a few Universal (still overpriced), Caro Mitis, Living Stereo. Worth a look. Plan to spend at least an hour there.
