What does "JAPANESE original analogue tape" mean, in case of Aja?

Snake-Oil Alert!

Oh, indeed, but I don't care about the SHM snake oil as long as they're SACDs because I know SACD isn't snake oil. The only downsides are the price premium and the fact these discs are made as single-layer stereo only. I would likely buy (ideally hybrid) multichannel SHM-SACDs.

My pleasure, Terence. Until someone actually gets one of these in their hands, we can only hope, yes?

SHM - SACD is now defunct

I just read that pop/rock versions will no longer be released.

I'm a new participant in this old discussion about SHM.

I only bought 1 title - "Aja" to replace my RBCD version. I played 'em simoultaneously back to back , switching the resource button from my CD player to my SACD player and I did notice a considerable difference in audio quality.
But NOT $50.00 plus different! The packaging was kinda cool.

Well, by now I am sure the Hi - Rez community has exhausted the discussion of these SHM SACDs?

Many new SHM-SACDs coming out. You need to get your story straight.

Did you calibrate the output volume within 0.1 dB? Louder sounds better.

More for April; Tom Waits, Bryan Adams and more.

@HiRezNut is way out of tune...

SHM-SACDs are real high quality sounding discs.

Strange, since the SHM-SACD program started in spring 2010, and was steady released thru 2010 and 2011, to summer 2012. And then started up again autum 2013.

There was a pronounced lull in the SHM~SACD program but to the delight of all, the new batch boasts more luxurious packaging, bonus content and most importantly DSD mastered from the original UK or US analogue master tapes clearly stated as opposed to mastered from 96/24 remasters (as was the case in the Queen and copious other SHM~SACD releases).

We interrupt this discussion with the following:

RB-CDs, SHM-SACDs, and single layer SACDs
have a single metallic layer containing the digital signal
represented by pits, this layer is covered by a protective
transparent layer of some kind.

A Hybrid SACD is made with a CD and the HD layer glued on top.
This HD layer is "semi-transmissive" to allow the laser to read through
to the CD layer underneath.

http://www.daisy-laser.com/technology/techsacd/techsacd04.htm

So, does this automatically mean that a SHM-SACD or single layer SACD
is going to have a sonic "edge" over the same HD files on a Hybrid SACD?
I don't think any manufacturer has gone to the trouble and expense of taking
a DSD master file and making both so a comparison and analysis can be made.

And now, back to the original discussion...
