sorry Paul, I overlooked this post.
cheers

Thank you. I just placed my order with CDJapan for Aja, The Who's Next and The Velvet Underground. Since Paul Clark posted that they're 2010 DSD Masters from the original Analogue master tapes and the fact that they are proprietary SHM~Single~layered SACDs, they should sound exceptional. I am disappointed that they are NOT multi~channel and hope that will consider m/c for future releases. I hope that this "faith" in the future of the format will eventually be shared by SONY Japan who will hopefully grace us with Blu-Spec SACDs....which might spur EMI to further grace us with HQ SACD multi~channel remasters of the Beatles Catalog..........or am I being too greedy?

Before they do multichannel remasters they will surely do a release of the 2009 stereo (and mono) remasters on media like SHM-SACD, just to milk every possible step.

No, before that come SHM-CDs and then MAAAAYBE the SACDs and then MAYYYYYYYYYYBE the SHM-SACDs ;-)

It's highly unlikely they'd go back to the analog tapes after already archiving them to 24/192 isn't it? I think Beatles Blu-ray's will see the light of day before Beatles SACD's to be honest, but I would love to see analog to DSD transfers of both mono and stereo Beatles albums and would pay big bank for them.

Well, according to the earlier article, some are:

"The latest DSD mastering in 2010 based on OVERSEAS original analog tape" (The Who).

"The latest DSD mastering in 2010 based on NATIONAL original analog tape" (Steely Dan, Moody Blues & Velvet Underground).

"Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab created the United States, 2008 DSD masters" (Marvin Gaye).

"2002 DSD 2 ABKCO masters" (Rolling Stones).

So, seems like a few sources are used for various discs.

Novice speaking........

What sound differences, if any, might we expect from the reissued SACDs (i.e., all those excepting "Who's Next," "AJA," and "VU and Nico")?

Thank you!

I can get some details on this. Working on it now...

Synchronicity and Let It Bleed are apparently the previous transfers as expected; just re-released and SHM-produced. The Who and Velvet Underground are obviously new transfers -- I'm not sure yet about MC or no.

If there are any specifics you guys want me to find out, I can.

As I said earlier this year, pop and rock and classic rock on SACD is not dead. We are still flying, and will continue to.

Hi Michi,

do you know anything about Sony going back to SACD?

The rumor was posted on the forum by Disbeliever two weeks ago or so.

I wish that were true; and I'm not sure how you can assert such with 3 or four titles every two years, of which maybe a hundred copies, max, are pressed up, - that few but old people who came of age 40 years ago want. The Justin Timberlake crowd has no clue who the Velvet Underground, Steely Dan are. When you have huge stars like Alison Goldfrapp releasing 1 SACD then bailing; you know that you are doomed.

I put my order in for the Steely Dan and VU SACDs, - but I'm not holding my breath: as far as I'm concerned this stuff is all vaporware until I see a package on my doorstep in July.

I love my SACDs, (sadly, only about 30: and I suspect that that is the same for most rock/jazz listeners), - but too assert that it is a format that is sustainable in the music industry, or anything other than a few geeks creating rare collectors items for the wealthy, is sheer madness. SACDs are just like the Public Image film cans, and picture disks collectors items in the late 70s/80s.
