The Dvorak 7 is not a symphony I have spent much time with. I have Jarvi's on Chandos, and I doubt that it has seen the inside of my player for 3 or 4 years. But Ivan Fischer and his Merry Band Of Music Makers has come trhough for me a number of times, making music that had become "everyday", or "flat" to me sing with new insights. Rachmaninoff 2, for example. And his Mahler 2,4, and 6 are my desert island versions of those symphonies. I have multiple sets of Beethoven, but Fischer's Beethoven 7 is superb.
Well--- He did it again. This is the Dvorak 7 you guys have been waiting for. After listening twice, I put on the Jarvi for a few minutes--yes grinding my teeth a bit from SACD MC to RBCD 2 channel-- and quickly went back to Fischer. I'm not familiar enough with this work to discuss it beyond this at the moment. I just want to say it captivated, and the sound is first class.
I am much more familiar with 8 and 9, and I've had Fischer's on Philips for many months. I suspect I will go for Jared's remastering eventually. He has it priced a bit lower on the CC site, by the way. He says that they greatly improved the two channel mix.
I'll talk more about this after I have a chance to spend more time with it. In the meantime, if you were expecting the usual world class performance on CC, Dvorak's 7 and the Suite are wonderful.

Bill, while I probably will like Fischer's rendition, Jarvi is not a very good comparison to match up with.

My favourite recording of this masterpiece has long been the Philips with Colin Davis conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra (the Royal hadn't been added at that stage) and for some time I've been hoping that PentaTone would release it, although I'm not sure if the original recording was quad.
It's without doubt my favourite Dvorak symphony.
I'm also very much a Fischer fan and, like Bill, love his Rachmaninov 2, Mahler 2, 4 and 6 and Strauss's "Joseph's Legend". I will probably get his recording of the Dvorak 7, too. I'm not sure about the 8 and 9

I'm glad you told me that--- That's why it sat and sat. The new one, on the other hand, makes me think much more of the symphony. And I'm loving that last movement.

I'm glad you mentioned the Strauss. I never did get that. Something else for the wish list.

Yes, both performance and sound is absolutely fantastic! If you need to convince anyone on the superiority of DSD-recorded SACD, look no further. On this basis, I hope Channel will follow-up with the 6th. Best wishes.

Sorry but it is not the Grimm but the Meidners. This was a June recording of last year and I did not start using the Grimm full time until September. (Actually our Stabat Mater that is coming out next week was the first recording of using it full time. (and the Horn concerto of the Penderecki also coming out in a couple of weeks.)
It still is great music making from Fischer and his band!

Talk about a non-issue! There are many other things to be concerned about - such as "you did actually dedicate a mike to the center channel didn't you?"
Not that I suspect Jared of the same cock-up that London Symphony Live or the people at Sony (The Luisi Heldenleben) are guilty of. All of my Polyhymnia recordings are done correctly, but PentaTone released an otherwise superb Berg disc by Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg from another source which sounds suspiciously like it has a panned center channel instead of a discretely miked center. What the heck is going on? Isn't there a standard you guys (recording studios) are supposed to follow?
Yes RWetmore, there are MUCH more important things to be asking about!
