It looks like Sony plan to issue their single-layer titles again as hybrids. Here's some of the titles I've found:

Miles Davis: Kind of Blue
Toto: Toto IV
Destiny's Child: Survivor
Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow

Out early November (in Europe at least).

About time.

Last I checked HMV.co.jp listed the Japanese edition of Midori's Bruch/Mendelssohn violin concertoes SACD with Mariss Jansons and the Berlin Philharmonic as being a hybrid.

I believe this (SIGC-27) is single-layer. See:

Quite possible. Would have been a little surprising for that to be a hybrid sneaked in among a bunch of single layers.

Has anybody found an official announcement from Sony on this matter? It would be nice to know which titles they are planning to re-release as hybrids so that I can plan ahead. I just bought the Miles Davis and Destiny's Child SACD's along with a few other single layer Sony titles. If only I had known sooner!

Musictap.net has a blurp about a January 20, 2004 re-release of the Titanic soundtrack on multi-channel hybrid SACD.

Well that makes sense. There were a number of Sony SACDs slated for multichannel reissue and it looks like they've held these over until they could issue them as hybrids. The mastering was probably already done in preparation for the single layer versions.

Titanic is evil.

Sony's philosophy on single layer/hybrid SACDs has always seemed strange to me. My understanding is that it was Sony that first came up with the hybrid idea THEN decided that anyone who had bought an SACD player wouldn't want to spend money on a layer that he/she would never play so began releasing single layer discs!

Surely an extraordinary decision.
