It's refreshing to see music lovers who have spent less on their systems than the "mine is bigger/more powerful/more expensive/more high brow than yours" crowd over on the 'Gon who apparently think little of shelling out big bucks for gold plated fuses, cryo-treated wall outlets, and expensive vibration dampening tweaks. My funniest moment last year was a fellow from church who had some of us over to his home showing off a system with mono amps with VU meters the circumference of a small toaster and speakers taller than I, who said "You just have to hear AC/DC on this system!"

..you statement is absurd...if you really loved sports cars and could afford any of them would you be driving a kia...?...my guess is not..my system being > $100k doesn't make me any more or less of a music lover then you.it simply means that i choose to spend my discretionary income on those things that please me..in this case my system..and in my car that happens to be a porsche...i don't apologize for that.i don't have to..i certainly am not a snob. i am,however, a successful businessman.everyone's system is more expensive then someone elses...it's all relative....krisjan asked the question...did you want everyone's answer to be like yours..?..what a boring world..

Yeah, I make $5.40 at the Goodwill SuperCenter. And I drive a Huffy Trekcruiser. It has super strong "beefy-boy" tires. It helps, cuz I weigh over 380 pounds. You be my hero, big businessman with the hotdog stand and the paper route.

You my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I knew this post would bring out the best in everyone!

One thing it tells us: Those who have the ability to buy the best are getting great sound. Those who love the music may be missing the touch of the bow on the bass viol, but they are loving the music nonetheless.

If I had the dough, I'd buy the best. Luckily, I have good enough to be better off than the way the average person listens to his ACDC discs.

The most expensive is not always the best

Nor is the cheapest! One should of course buy what they can comfortably afford because they will have something to look forward to as their fortunes change and if that doesn't happen then LOVE THE ONE YOU'RE WITH!

Gerald, history in the making, finally something I totally agree with. Also why extended auditions are important. My advise has always been to get what you like in the price range you can afford and forget about other peoples opinions.

Our patience has been rewarded - just knew you'd blow your cover sooner or later... how could you resist?

Fair do's 'though, I had expected far worse from your itchy fingers.

BUT... The best is ALWAYS expensive is it not?

Go this extra step and we could become firm buddies!

As an aside, if we have the best wife or husband in the world bar none, why would we advertise it to the world? There are too many thieves, scoundrels and opportunists.. and, how could we prove it to others?

In thought we are indeed alone in the universe.

Apologize for poking fun at consumerism and musical tastes. Tried adding dash of humor but hit a raw nerve or two instead. I like music talk Atterberg to Zappa, so I'll be reading the posts and relishing the diversity of opinion. Idea: tweak overlooked by many a audiophile > ear wax irrigation kit from the local pharmacy.

All this talk and I stumbled upon this: http://hipsterpuppies.tumblr.com/post/392873383/barney-is-more-concerned-with-dynamic-range today. It just seems too perfect.
