Bill,

That's why I only said Classical Millenium. I knew you knew what place I was talking about. I was a regular patron for years before moving to Japan for 12 years. Now I'm back in the area, work here during the week, and go every now and then to go first to the used discs. It's gotten too hard to navigate their new stuff, to tell you the truth. It's so jam packed with cds and SACDs, and just a bit dark, to be able to find stuff.

With the demise of the Tower Classical stores on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, and the Fisherman's Wharf and Berkeley Stores in the Bay Area, I really think that CM is the last good store on the West Coast---maybe outside the East Coast. Thank heavens for the Web, but I really do miss rummaging. I know it's been over a year since I was there.

Well--- along with Berkshire, it's clear that der Hollander and I recommend Classical Millenium, on East Burnside in Portland, as a great brick and mortar store.

Berkshire has recently gotten restocks plus a bunch of new Pragas and PentaTones (among others), for those of you interested.

Same in England, it is now a challenge to find even main label classical music in any record store outside London. Only HMV in Oxford Street is reliable in that sense plus a very very small number of independent specialist shops eg Presto in Leamington Spa, to keep the genre alive. HMV OSL have a section of SACD's but at £16 a throw not many buyers.

As you say "thank goodness for the WWW" and SA-CD.net

I wish they had an agreement with Zeuss, and I hope he will forgive my posting this.

The web is pretty much the only place to find esoterica of any kind-- and to the rest of society, that's anything other than the 3 Blind Tenors doing disco versions of Verdi's biggest hits. Golly--- that sounded pretty smug.

It's not like you can walk into a store and expect to find a replacement belt for your turntable, or even a reasonable selection of the best Film Noirs (Films Noir?) on disc.

Yesterday I was gripped by the desire to hear Karajan's studio version of M9. I found a used Musical Heritage Society edition on line for 2.19 USD---2 discs including Ludwig doing the songs.

Folks might be interested to know that BRO seems to be back in business.

They seem to have moved their operations to Albany, NY, and the address they now give on their website is the same address used by Albany Records.
