Has he? What about the Nat King Cole SACDs that are about to be issued?

He may have done the superb remastering but his own label Audio Fidelity has gone the Gold RBCD route and if one reads some of the reviews on Amazon.com, they are wildly all over the map in terms of sound quality and they're still RBCDs (with the added HDCD mastering) and their prices are on parity with the AP and MoFi SACDs.

Ralph you are quite correct, there have been NO new Audio Fidelity SACDs in years, and the original ones are mostly out-of-print.

Back in 2001 Audio Fidelity burst on the scene as an SACD only label priced at the then super low retail price of $15.99! They said they were going to blow the lid off of the high-priced remastering business. Several years ago they started releasing HDCD encoded 24k Gold CDs at the high retail price of $29.99, and soon after stopped releasing SACDs. It sounds like they stopped caring about sound quality, reasonable pricing and SACD and are just going after the big bucks.

It's really sad Audio fidelity releases music on CDs, a slap in the face of Super Audio Center.

RHINO is now doing Quadrophonic handmade limited editions. I know it's not SACD it's DTS 96/24 on DVD. First release was Chicago Transit Authority. More to come. The Audio Quality is not Lossless but considering the age of the recording I was very happy.

I did purchase this new Rhino handmade edition but all I could think was that they went back to the original quad masters and didn't go the extra distance of adding an MLP 4.0 DVD-A layer and a hi~rez stereo layer (at the least).....The dynamics of this recording would have greatly benefitted from hi~rez...and if you read the letters on their website, I am NOT alone in my displeasure with Rhino. And the list price was $30. A step back, IMO. However wonderful it may have sounded, DTS and DD are lossy codecs and with all the new Universal Players being released, I hope they reconsider their strategy when releasing new product in the QUAD format. And don't be fooled by the 96/24 DTS or DD designations. It was mastered from 96/24 but the DVD is still 16/48!

If that's how an audiophile label handles its business it's hard to blame majors, isn't it? At least majors price their CDs more reasonably (see Universal $6-$9).
